Preparing your home for Thanksgiving can sometimes feel overwhelming, but a simple daily checklist can make it easier. Whether you’re celebrating your first Thanksgiving in one of our new homes or celebrating your last before moving into one of our new homes in Ridgefield WA, here’s a handy guide to keep you on track and stress-free.
The Week Before
Now is the time to deep clean and declutter. Organize entryways, living rooms, and other areas where guests will gather. Once that’s done, go ahead and set out your Thanksgiving decor, such as fall wreaths, seasonal centerpieces, and pull out any special napkins, napkin rings, tablecloths and other special serving glasses, silverware, plates, and serving dishes so you know you have everything.
Five Days Before
If you haven’t already, finalize the menu, deciding on appetizers, main courses, sides, and desserts. If anyone is bringing food, follow up with them to make sure there won’t be anything missing or duplicated. Make a list of any ingredients you’ll need and then go grocery shopping to get everything you’ll need, so you don’t have to do any last-minute shopping.
Three Days Before
If family or friends are staying over, make up guest beds, set out fresh towels, and stock bathrooms with essentials. Now is the time to make sure your kitchen is clean and orderly and that you have all of the necessary pots and pans, so that once you start preparing food, you’ll have everything you need and the space to work.
Two Days Before
Go ahead and vacuum one last time, make sure all bathrooms are clean and ready, and generally make sure the high-traffic areas are clean. If you’re expecting a lot of guests, you may want to go ahead and set up the dining table if you can get away with not using it until the big day. Arrange place settings, add centerpieces, and prepare any additional tables and seating if necessary.
One Day Before
Prep ingredients, chop vegetables, assemble casseroles, and prepare anything that can be made in advance and refrigerated to be rewarmed. You may also want to set up a drinks station, with glasses, drinkware, and beverages in an easy-access area so guests serve themselves.
Thanksgiving Morning
Now is the time to finish cooking, focusing on the main dishes and last-minute prep. Make sure there’s enough seating for everyone. Now all you have to do is welcome your guests and enjoy the day.
Having a plan like this goes a long way to making Thanksgiving a day where you can enjoy your time with family and friends and a delicious feast.
