Your To Do List Before Moving

Your To Do List Before Moving

July 21, 2023

Moving day is stressful, no matter how well-prepared you are and no matter how much you’re looking forward to living in one of our new homes in Ridgefield WA. You’re saying goodbye to a home where you have some happy memories, but you’re also trying to make sure everything is packed up and moved safely to your new home – including kids and pets. So we have a few tips to keep in mind to prepare yourself for moving day and to make the move go as smoothly as possible.

First off, get rid of anything you don’t want to move. There are bound to be items that you know you’ll never use again, so why go to the hassle of packing them when they’re just taking up space. Go through clothing, kitchenware, sheets, towels, toys, and everything else that tends to build up and either donate it, sell it, or toss it. This will make it easier to start packing.

Speaking of starting to pack, before you do, make sure you have a couple of moving kits. One should contain any paperwork for closing, as well as other important documents and items you don’t want to misplace and that will move with you on moving day, especially if you’re hiring movers and may be moving to a new city. The other kit should be made up of items you need for packing and unpacking, such as packing tape, box cutters, markers, garbage bags, paper towels, cleaning spray and anything you might need to help you pack and unpack.

While you’re packing, try to group similar items together as much as possible in each box and label the box clearly so you know what’s in it without having to dig around. You may want to designate specific names for boxes and put up signs in the house for the movers, such as kitchen, great room, bedroom 1, bedroom 2, home office, etc. This will save you time and energy in the long run when you don’t have to cart boxes around from room to room, upstairs and down, when it’s time to unpack.

It may be tempting to try to do the move yourself with the help of some friends, but it’s worth the extra cost to use professional movers. They can work more quickly and will be more organized when it comes to loading and unloading and they’ll know how to deal with the more delicate or heavy pieces of furniture.

If you have young children and pets, you may also want to find a friend or family member who can look after them on the big moving day so that there’s no worry about their safety and you’ll have one less thing to focus on.

With these tips in mind, the big move to one of Pacific Lifestyle Homes’ new homes in Ridgefield WA will go more smoothly. Just remember that packing takes longer than you think it will, so don’t procrastinate!
