If you’re working with us on one of the homes in Battle Ground WA, or are thinking about it, and aren’t familiar with the area, we’ve got some tips to get you acquainted with this great city. Plus, you’re close to Vancouver, WA, and even Portland, OR, further increasing your entertainment, shopping, and dining options. Battle Ground is a great place to call home for all it has and its proximity to even more!
Battle Ground is particularly ideal for those who love the great outdoors. There’s a wealth of wonderful scenery, as well as activities that let you take in the views. For example, Battle Ground Lake State Park is rich with activities. Nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, this park features more than 280 acres of lush, forested land. Amid it all is a spring-fed lake that is volcanic in origin. The lake is popular with fishers, as it has bass, crappie, and rainbow trout. Yet you don’t have to be a fisher to enjoy this state park. With its size, it’s not a surprise to find out that there are a vast array of activities for the whole family. Among them are the more typical ones such as hiking, mountain biking, swimming, boating, and bird watching, but there’s also diving, baseball and softball, volleyball, badminton, and even horseshoe pits. Add in cabins and picnic areas and you have a wonderful place to visit regularly.
Just a few miles out, amid the farmlands and forests of Brush Prairie, golfers will fall in love with Cedars Golf Course. With three sets of tees and a wide range of holes, this local course is popular for both serious and amateur golfers. Regardless of skill level, you’ll find the course enjoyable, though it still offers a challenge for the experienced golfer. The scenic fairways and perfectly manicured bent grass greens offer a sense of peace and tranquility, no matter your score. There’s also a driving range and lessons available, and the facilities are often used for a range of events, from weddings to corporate gatherings.
For something a little further out, but definitely worth the trip, visit the Ape Caves. The longest continuous lava tube in the United States, this natural wonder was formed 2,000 years ago. The Ape Caves feature 2.5 miles of stalactites, stalagmites, and unusual mineral formations. You’ll also find an 8-foot lava fall and beautiful forested trails surrounding the caves. While this experience may not be for everyone as it can be a long hike, it’s absolutely worth visiting if you’re up for it and want to experience a truly unique, natural setting.
Finally, inevitably, if you haven’t been already, you should go visit Mt. St. Helens. This stunning volcano is much more than its eruption back in 1980. Today, it offers inspiring views and educational programs about the area’s fascinating geological and biological history. It also has a wealth of outdoor activities to enjoy, including hiking, climbing, including guided climbs, horseback riding, picnicking, camping, winter sports, and even helicopter tours. The Johnston Ridge Observatory is typically open May through October, while the Mt. St. Helens visitor’s center is usually open daily.
