One of the reasons why clients choose our new homes in Vancouver WA is the flexibility we include in our floor plans. Too often, people have to compromise with a room that serves as both a rarely used guest room and frequently used game room, home office,  etc. that is too cramped. We create flex rooms in addition to bedrooms so that your home comfortably fits your lifestyle. For many people, that means the inclusion of a man cave. If you’re planning on taking advantage of this space, here are some tips for must-have items.

First and foremost, you need comfortable seating. If you’re using this space primarily on your own, focus on a comfortable recliner. If you’re planning on including family and friends, then a sectional sofa is ideal. Make sure to choose easy-to-clean materials like leather or performance fabric for durability and style.

Whether you’re going to be gaming or watching sports or movies, you’re going to want a big-screen TV. Besides a high-definition, large-screen TV, you’ll probably want some great speakers or even a surround-sound system for music and that movie-theater audio experience. Get an entertainment center that can neatly hold and store all of your equipment for easy access.

While you may play video games regularly, don’t forget analog games ranging from foosball and pool tables to board games and card games. These can be a fun way to take a break from the screens and spend more quality time with friends and family.

You’re probably going to want a bar in your man cave. Even if it’s just a small refrigerator and a drinks table, having a designated beverage station or mini bar makes entertaining easy. Include a small refrigerator stocked with drinks and snacks, and a bar area for mixing cocktails. If space allows, consider installing a beer tap or wine cooler. Don’t forget shelving for glassware, bottles, and various bar tools for both functionality and style.

Don’t forget the decor. Choose a theme based on your interests, whether it’s films, sports, or even vintage signs. It’s a great way to showcase your personality and interests and if you have a lot of posters and decorative items gathering dust in storage, it’s a great spot to display them.

Custom lighting, like neon signs or team-themed fixtures are another way to enhance the space. Even if you don’t want to go that far, at least include multiple lighting options such as ambient lights or dimmer switches for movies and gaming, along with lighting for game tables and your bar area.
